Independent Bottlers, commonly known as IBs, are key players in the whisky industry who do not engage in whisky production themselves. Instead, they acquire whiskies from different producers and bottle them under their own distinctive brands. Interestingly, some IBs have a rich history that predates the official producers (OBs) who directly release whiskies to consumers.
One of the notable advantages of IBs lies in the extraordinary variety they bring to the table. Unlike OBs, IBs are not constrained by the need for standardized releases. This freedom enables them to offer an ever-changing selection of whiskies with diverse characteristics. These whiskies span across different ages, maturation periods, cask types, and origins from various whisky producers. It is not uncommon for IBs to embrace the allure of cask strength and single casks, further amplifying the individuality of their bottlings.
