Aberlour A’bunadh batch 56

A’bunadh is the fruit of first-fill Oloroso sherry butts bottled at cask strength, a tradition of sorts from the guys at Aberlour. The 1st batch was bottled in 1997 and has proven to be a hugely popular dram.

As it was made it in the late 1800’s, with 61.2% abv,  even the bottle shape harks back to the days when the grocer bottled the loot. During renovations at the Distillery a bottle of whisky was found in the old walls, wrapped in newspaper and containing delicious Aberlour. The laborers who found the whisky immediately set about drinking the bottle and catching up on the news of 1898, which they found very satisfying indeed.

What was left was tested and duplicated by a master blender and this expression is what we enjoy today.

Nose: Praline and spiced orange
Palate: Black cherries, dried fruit and ginger, chocolate and creamy Sherry ( naturally, er Watson?)
