Ballantines 30 years Blended Scotch Whisky in cardboard box
This bottle is from the 1970’s, which might seem like a long time ago, until we remember that this is a 30 year blend. So Whisky for this bottle was laid up in the late 1940’s and 50’s. What a different world that was. Peace finally and an end to all war forever, for sure.
The bottle presents as brand new, the box is mildy scuffed.
Ballantines is a well recognized blend that has its origins in 1827, when George Ballantine set up a small grocery store in Edinburgh supplying a range of whiskies to his mates. Things got more efficient, his sons joined the company and in no time there was warehouses and wealth.
Hiram Walker, later owners of the brand in the 1930’s purchased the Miltonduff and Glenburgie Distilleries and built a massive new grain distillery at Dumbarton. Miltonduff and Glenburgie have been at the heart of all Ballantines since then. Dumbarton, famous for the geese, known as the “scotch watch” was closed early in the new millennium and demolished completely by 2017.
