Bunnahabhain 12 years Single Malt (1980’s)
This is an older version of the Gold standard 12 year old whisky that is Bunnahabhain.
Founded in 1881 close to Port Askaig, a small town was established at the same time, to provide housing for the staff.
Mostly used for blending, and un-peated, until the mid 1980’s, when the owners, in a moment of clarity, released this bottle with the self-deprecating tag-line, “the un-pronounceable malt.”
Widely recognized as the ideal introduction to the island’s whiskies as it has all the Islay flavours but with milder tones. On the money, this is some great Scotch whisky.
Bun na h-Abhainne, Scottish Gaelic for Mouth of the River. Pretty name, pretty hard to pronounce, pretty awesome whisky. (Writers favorite- the 25 yr)
