Carsebridge 48 years Single Grain, 1970
This is the only official release from the Carsebridge Distillery, in her 200 year history, and what a beauty it is. 48 years of sweet grain in refill hogshead barrels, this is a bottle for the collectors.
Founded late in the 1700’s Carsebridge’s primary output was malt but by the mid 1800’s coffey stills were introduced and a powerhouse of grain spirit was born. For years on the cusp of the Whisky Industry, Carsebridge was finally felled by the 1980’s doldrums.
This is the Ghost of that great Company, golden nectar from a better time. An ode to what an elegant spirit can be, even from the grave. Mar sin leat.
Nose: Portuguese custard tarts, crystallised honey, blackcurrants.
Palate: Sugar syrup and fudge, lime and vanilla cream.
Finish: soft oakiness, oiliness and meduim finish.
