Grant’s Blended Scotch Whisky (1980’s)
This is a the “new” re-branded Grant’s Family Reserve, that was introduced in 1985. The iconic shaped bottle was incorporated in 1957, and this brand replaced “Stand Fast” for a while. Stand Fast is available again in 2021 as a blended 12 year.
The history of Grant’s is fascinating. In 1886, a young William Grant resigned from the Mortlach Distillery, bought Cardhu’s old equipment and malted his first barley. The Distillery was working well from the outset and his whisky was sold to blenders until the Grant’s brand was developed some years later.
Now in its sixth generation of family management this is Whisky Royalty, and Glenfiddich stands proud as the largest producers of Malt in Scotland. They also own Balvenie, Kininvie, Ailsa Bay and Girvan, the Grain Giant. Their Grant’s blended whisky is legendary, and the brand has a wonderful and colorful history. It is made even more special by the fact that the family stayed together, kept out the enemy and are here today, whole in body.
